Special Classes focus on one specific project or glass making method. These classes run 3–6 weeks, typically meeting once a week. Each class is totally unique and is the perfect opportunity to dive into something new and exciting in the glass studio! Check out our next three special classes below.

Adult Glass isn't a typical art class. It's a personalized mentorship designed around your creative goals. In a small group capped at just five students, you'll receive extensive one-on-one attention from our expert instructors. Whether you're drawn to the timeless tradition of stained glass or the modern possibilities of kiln-formed glass, we'll help you build a strong foundation of skills and guide you as you bring your unique vision to life. With the personalized style of this class it is the perfect class for first time students through advanced intermediates!

Special Classes

  • Stained Glass Copper Foil Spinner example for the Stern Glass Works Special 3d construction copper foil stained glass

    Copper Foil Spinners

    The perfect Introduction: 3D Construction!

    What You’ll Learn:

    Over the course of 12 hours of instruction and 3 hours of outside-of-class work time, you will make this gorgeous 6 pane stained glass spinner.

    To keep the focus on the skill that matter most: precision cutting, speedy/precise foiling techniques, 3D construction, and spinner hardware - the entire class will be making the same design.

    Who:
    This is a perfect class for beginners with at least 2 copper foil projects under their belt looking to expand their repertoire, as well as intermediate students looking to hone technical skills.

    When:

    4-Consecutive Saturdays

    4/18, 4/25, 5/2, 5/9

    2pm-5pm

    3 additional studio hours to be used outside of class time at your discretion

    Intro to Mold Making and Cast Glass

    Beginner Mold Making and Cast Glass

    What You’ll Learn:

    Intended as a introduction to the many methods, aesthetics and applications of cast glass you will explore sculpting in both clay and wax, open face mold making, and lost wax investment casting.
    ‍‍
    You will be making 2 projects as part of your exploration of casting. First low-relief sculpted tiles or plaque and second a figurine carved/cast in 360 degrees.

    Who:
    This is a perfect class for first time glass casting students as well as ceramic/other media sculptures looking to translate their art into another material

  • Fused Glass Pattern Bar & Murrini

    The Beauty of Repeatable Patterns

    What You’ll Learn:

    Choosing sheet glass, stringers, and other fusible materials is always fun — but what if you could design a color palette once and use it again and again to create endless patterns?

    In this class, you’ll learn how to build repeatable fused glass patterns such as dots, stripes, chevrons, houndstooth, and more. Through stacking, cutting, multiple kiln firings, and layout techniques, you’ll develop versatile pattern-making skills you can apply to many future fusing projects.

    Who:

    This class is geared for students who have begun to explore the fused glass process and are looking to expand their collection of techniques

    When:

    5-Consecutive Saturdays

    7/11, 7/18, 7/25, 8/1, 8/8

    2pm-5pm

How It Works

Flexible by Design

Step 1: Choose Your Start Date

Begin your five-session course whenever you're ready. There are no fixed start dates, so you can jump in at any time.

Step 2: Choose Your Attendance Style

Choose between: 3 & 2 hour work session

* 3 hours strongly recommended. Most people find 2 hours is too short to get into the work as they would like.

3 Hours: We know life can be busy. You have a full seven weeks from your start date to complete your five sessions. Miss a week? No problem. You won't lose out on your paid studio time.

2 Hours: From your start date you will have 7 consecutive weeks of class.

Step 3: Pick Your Weekly Time Slot

Attend your sessions during one of our three convenient weekly time slots. Choose the one that works best for your schedule:

Tuesdays: 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Wednesdays: 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Sundays: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

NOTE: All students have the same start time however, 2 hour students will finish 1 hour early.

Cost:

Non-Member: $470/per student

Member: $423/member

Glass Policy: Glass is not included in the course fee. This gives you the creative freedom to choose from our extensive library of glass without limitation. You only pay for the glass you use for your projects.

Learn the classic Tiffany method of copper foil and solder to build with light and color. Master the fundamentals of cutting, grinding, and assembly.

First-time students will create a beautiful sun catcher or corner panel from one of our proven designs to build a strong skill set.

Intermediate and advanced students can learn the lead-channel method!

Kiln Formed Glass

Fusing & Slumping

Explore the magic of the kiln. Learn how to cut and arrange glass to create stunning patterns and shapes through fusing and slumping.
Your first project will be a simple and elegant square dish, teaching you the core principles of creating form and function.


Kiln Casting
Learn the multi-step process of casting glass. With this technique students will explore sculpting with wax and clay, building molds of multiple material types and casting the glass into its 3d form.
