          Maia Stern (b. 1993, MA) is a glass artist who's work focuses on a sculptural exploration of object-hood through the elevation of the seemingly banal. Stern is a MFA Candidate at SIU Carbondale and expects to graduate in May of 2020. She received her BFA in glass from Cleveland Institute of Art in May 2015, attended Tulane University 2011-2012, Rhode Island School of Design 2012-2013, as well as Bild-Werk International Summer Academy 2012, and Pilchuck Glass School 2015. Stern is beginning her MFA program at SIU Carbondale in August 2017 and expects to graduate in May of 2020. Stern has participated as an Emerging Artist in Residence at Salem Art Works 2015, Glass Studio Intern at STARWorks Center for Creative Enterprise 2016, Summer Intern at Appalachian Center for Craft 2014, and is currently the Artist in Residence at Cleveland Institute of Art, Glass Department. Stern’s work was recently on display at the at Gathering:Contemporary Glass from the Heartland 2016, Muncie, IN as well as in the 2016 Bank of the Arts National Juried Exhibition in New Bern, NC where she won Best in Contemporary Craft Category. Stern was recently on display at The Heights Arts Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio in the Emergent Show as well as the GAS Member Juried Exhibition at the Glass Wheel Studio in Norfolk, Virginia. Stern’s works have been featured in Unfiltrd Mag's July 2015 Issue 'The Kids Are Alright' as well as the the Niche Awards website, Niche Magazine, and Princeton University Art Museum Summer 2017 Magazine. Stern was the recipient of two Niche Awards 2016 in Professional Cast/Slumped/Fused Glass and Blown Glass. Upcoming Stern’s work will be on display at Winter Show 2017 at GreenHill in Greensboro, NC.
